Having recorded a few incredibly soulful & highly-collectable sides in the 1970s for small West Coast labels such as Fuller & Hill Records, the amazing stand-up singer (& sharpest dresser in town) Reverend Sonny Green is often compared to Bobby Bland, Johnny Taylor & Al Green due to his greasy, smooth-to-gritty dynamic vocals. See him while you can because, shortly after this performance, Sonny plans on moving to Dallas, TX.

Ray Brooks is an extremely rare treat in the blues world. Blessed with a magical musical touch, his stinging, yet sophisticated blues guitar phrasing, matches seamlessly with his expressive patented high-register emotional vocal wailing. Though he cut a few rare 45s in the 1970’s, and occasionally tours overseas, it’s a wonder why Ray never became famous like BB King or Fenton Robinson. Truly, a blues treat to behold.

The highly in-demand Joyce Lawson, finds herself singing blues less frequently in recent days since she inherited her own church (not unlike Solomon Burke) located in South Central, Los Angeles. It’s there that she now directs her own choir and preaches on Sunday. An absolute blues and gospel master, Ms. Lawson sings as soulfully as both Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin, and is also a virtuoso pianist. Check out her recording on famed Evejim Records entitled “Today I sing The Blues.”

South Side Slim is a rising name in the blues world. After five strongly received CDs and wild performances at the North Atlantic and Pocono Blues Festivals, he is spreading his “Otis Rush-meets-Isley Brothers”-inspired grooves to as many fans as he can. Slim is currently working on a CD with long time friend, Terrence Howard. Howard was one of 2005’s Oscar nominees for “Best Actor” in Hustle and Flow.

The most ubiquitous blues bandleader on LA’s south side for over 30 years, Joe Kincaid has backed everyone including Johnny Guitar Watson, Lowell Fulson and scores of others. He is also a wonderful, gutbucket blues singer and versatile guitar player who’s repertoire of songs literally reaches into the thousands. He and his tight band, Joe Kincaid and the Soul Brothers, will be masterfully backing all of the performers for this evening’s historical concert. Though he’s managed to avoid the studio as a leader, the good news is Kincaid is now working on his debut release, with Cadillac Zack producing.
